Welcome
For those with an accent who need a psychologist, Psicología con Acento was born.
Therapy (and much more) for people living far from home. I work in English, Spanish or Italian, wherever you are.
30 minutes by video call, no commitment.

Does any of this sound familiar?
I miss something I can’t even name.
I chose to move here. So why do I feel bad?
In my own language I’m funny. In this one, I’m someone else.
I’m afraid migration will affect my children negatively.
When I go back home, I don’t quite fit in there either.
Since I started living abroad, I keep wondering what to do with my future.
If you recognise yourself here, you’re not doing anything wrong. Moving countries stirs up far more than people see from the outside, and it deserves a space of its own.
I’m Maria Tani, a general health psychologist (M-43166), and I live with an accent too
My journey began when I was little: at the age of 5 I lived through my first migration. Even though it was within the same country (Italy), I tasted my first migratory grief before I could make any sense of it.
In 2019 I went through my first voluntary migration, moving to Madrid to study. That is where I met my first culture shocks, language barriers and the weight of having two parallel lives, feeling like a bridge between two cultures.
I also had the chance to do an Erasmus exchange in Paris, living a migration with a set expiry date, with all the good and bad that entails.
Psychology is my great passion, especially child and migration psychology. Right now I work with adults, children, teenagers and families living between cultures.
My approach is integrative: I combine tools from different schools of therapy with scientific evidence and adapt them to your story and your pace. That said, I believe the ultimate goal of therapy is that you stop needing a psychologist. My model is based on shared goals and includes a phase of assessment, intervention and follow-up, until you feel you can manage on your own.
Sessions are online, so we can keep going with the process even if you change city or country.

What I can help with
Every migration story is different. These are the situations I work with most.
Adults living abroad
Migratory grief, anxiety, loneliness, questions of identity, adaptation fatigue, or deciding whether to stay or go back.
Children and teenagers
Changing schools, language barriers, isolation and the complexity of growing up between two or more cultures.
Families
When everyone adapts at their own pace: improving communication and building a shared sense of home.
International and Erasmus students
Academic pressure, homesickness, new relationships and everything that comes with studying far from home. At a reduced fee.
Intercultural couples
When each of you comes from a different place, the couple also has to learn to translate for each other.
